A BRIEF
HISTORY
For more than 4 years, when the announcement
of the construction of the hydroelectric Plant in River
Uruguay (in the States of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina)
the Tourist Corridor Iguaçu Falls project began to
be drawn up (one of the most wonderful waterfalls of the
world)
With the creation of the Committee
of Administration of River Canoes' Hydrographical Basin,
the main tributary of the River Uruguay, in the west catarinense,
that involves 28 municipal districts, the immense size of
that project was noticed. Commenting on the possibility
with some municipal districts by River Uruguay all were
enthusiastic with the idea that their municipal districts
were included in this corridor. However, every day it was
possible to visualize another scenery. With the possibility
appearing of creating the Tourist Corridor not just between
the States of Paraná and Santa Catarina, but of the
whole Prata Basin.
As River Uruguay ends in front of Montevideo
and Buenos Aires the idea appeared, of extending that corridor
to the Rivers Paraná and Paraguay that serves the
Prata Basin, that also end in the del Plata Sea , that has
its East in Brazilian territory. Forming
part of the majestic Prata Basin in Argentina, Bolivia,
Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay it was noticed that Mercosul
could be benefited with such great initiative. And beautiful
Chile could not be left out, in spite of not belonging to
that Basin, that would turn into being the tourists' entrance
door that comes from the Pacific.
